A Polio Epidemic

My poor little baby is sick.

3 1/2 months in and I had to make the dreaded "I think my baby has a cold" call to the pediatrician. I feel like an awful parent. What did I expose her to that I shouldn't have? That event, that person, that other kid... the list builds in my head and the guilt racks up with each sneeze, cough, and congested breath. I ache for her little body and I wish I could take all from her. But since I can't, we are relying on good old nursing, Mrs. Frida, and saline solution to do the trick.

Why is it that a little cold feels like a huge polio epidemic?

Praying for better days!

Friday Favorites

/ / Web Favorites (the pile-up!) / /

The World Cup WAGS. I don't know why I care, but I do.  Do you?

I should have studied abroad in Italy. Now I just need to take a month long vaca there. :p

My Grandfather drove the ships that dropped off the soldiers on Normandy. Makes this collection that much more moving.

Calling All Shoppers!

I want to make these one day, soon. Or maybe just one day.

I miss them.

A few days late, but still. I couldn't agree more.

I've been to Japan, but this makes me want to go back.

Steve Ballmer?

You'd think this would encourage me. But no, it.does.not.

5 ways to cut cable. Josh and I have. Will you?

And lastly, Are you a good kisser? (Josh is. heh.)

The Five Finger Discount

I have an awful confession to make.

In the last three months I seem to have taken on a new habit of shoplifting. Gasp! I fear even writing it for not only the judgment from you, my comrades, but also for the influence it may have upon my daughter who may read this one day.

So far it has happened twice at Target (on separate occasions) and once at Michaels. One was for a card, the other AAA batteries, and the last a plastic cake stand. Here is the incriminating evidence in case you don't believe me.

The offending cake plate

That this development has begun exactly around the time Emerson was born is no coincidence. See, when I go into a store now, I no longer push a cart since I have the stroller. And so instead of piling my goods up where I can see them, I stow them in the basket at the base of the stroller. This works for the most part except when I decide to not buy anything after looking around, forgetting about the item in the basket. By the time I do realize I have taken it I've already returned to the car, put Emerson in her seat, put the diaper bag away, and am folding up the stroller to put in the trunk. I know I should go back but it seems too much to bring everything out again so I can go all the way back to the store! Isn't that awful? I console myself by saying I'll pay for it next time but so far I've forgotten each time I've been in Target - and I have been to Target many times since.

I am going to Michaels on Friday with Melissa so I am planning on rectifying the cake plate then. This way if they arrest me on site then I'll have someone to take Emerson.

Yikes!

Have you ever stolen something?

Mommy and Me

Emerson and I attended our first Mommy and Me type of thing this week. Not going to lie, I was nervous going in. I didn't know most of the people there and being my first one I didn't want to do something weird and stick out like a sore thumb (sound like middle school all over again?).  But everyone was friendly and forgiving. I think that's just how moms roll. And in a weird way, I felt an instant connection with the little group. Everyone is just trying their best and really, that's all we can ask of ourselves.

I also learned something - 99% of moms have a horrible first time breastfeeding story. Seriously! My sob story paled in comparison to some of these women. One lady had twins so you can imagine, double the everything!

The more I learn about moms, the more I am in awe of them.

The Quest Continues

My quest to regain my body back continues.

Last week I saw a facebook friend post a 30 Day Ab Challenge, inviting anyone to join in. Well, being the fb stalker I am, I decided to do it without telling them. muhahahahaha..... (ok, not worth the evil laugh?)

Here it is:

As we all know working out is hard to do alone so I've recruited my husband, my sister, and my brother in law to join me in this torturous adventure. Here is my Bil working that arse (insert laughing so hard I'm crying emoji here).

The thing is, it is soooo hard and it's only just begun! Truth be told, I can't even do the crunches correctly. I literally cannot lift my body up that far. It's incredibly embarrassing in a public way and in a private way too. EH! It is also incredibly spirit killing because my husband isn't even sore whereas each morning I feel like a brick is sitting on my abdomen.

For the next month I may complain here or there about it but by the end of the month I'll give you an progress update and if I miraculously have a six pack at the end of this I promise to post a picture. Although, my real(istic) goal is to just get halfway to fitting in my old jeans again. Halfway people. Not even all the way in the jeans.

(If you too would like to join the ab challenge, let me know how it goes!)

Onward and upward.

Birth Announcement

I think everyone should have received our birth announcement by now so here's the big reveal (well, let's just say it's a big reveal, shall we? :p)

Tada!

We ended up picking one from minted - I fell hard for the design and after I saw that one I couldn't find another like it. The main thing is the gold embossed lettering. Love!!! Plus I loved how it was dainty and girly - kinda like her. As her personality has begun to emerge, we've seen that she leans towards the quiet and calm and sweet and I thought the announcement sort of portrayed that. Besides, she's my first daughter, when will I have another birth announcement for her? Never. I hope she loves it in 15 years as much as I do now.

So Bad, So Good

Today I had the most amazing morning. I took a nap, went running, took a shower, AND ate lunch - in that order and practically right after one another! It was a pampered morning and it was heavenly.

But don't miss what I'm saying. I. went. running.

I haven't gone for a run in almost a year. A YEAR. Oh, it hurt so bad and it felt so good!

That's all I've got for you today. :) Have a great week.

Runyon Canyon this past Saturday. She's  cantankerous and congested but man, LA's a beaut.
