A Long Obedience in the Same Direction

Last weekend Emerson and Noe's rec softball team snagged the coveted W in the championship game. We are thrilled for them.

In all of the celebrating, my heart was celebrating Josh and his role as dad. We all know that behind every accomplishment from our kids is a parent who worked just as hard to get them there. And Josh, phew! This one is all his.

Emerson is left handed and last year Josh realized that she might be able to play pitcher. Like him, she is willing to work on something until she gets it. And work they did. For the last 9 months or so they have pitched together in the backyard 3x a week - home or on vacation, rain or shine. He was relentless so she was relentless. And she has come a long way.

The more I spend my years with Josh, I see how strategic, deliberate, and hard working he is - with himself, sure, but his children now reap the benefits of those strengths. Those practices certainly were at the forefront of some arguments between us but there is no denying the fruit that comes from hard work.

Just like our faith - 'a long obedience is the same direction.' Eugene Peterson.

The fruit is undeniable.
